Kandhamal Turmeric Powder is one of the best and lesser-known spices in India. Grown in the hills of the Kandhamal district of Odisha, it has been given the Geographic Information Tag by Govt. of India in the year 2019. Known for its distinct aroma and antioxidant properties, it is also used as a preferred spice in the daily preparation of food. Kandhamal Turmeric is grown by the tribals using traditional cultivation techniques, without the use of any chemical fertilizer or insecticides.
2. Black Pepper
Black Pepper belongs to the family of Piperaceae is a flowering vine grown in the deep forests of Kandhamal. This type of pepper grown in these hills is unique for its smell and used as a spice and seasoning. Kandhamal is well known for its virgin forest and vibrant landscape. This plant is a woody climber, the fruits, which are sometimes called peppercorns, are drupes. They become yellowish red at maturity and bear a single seed. The characteristic flavour is primarily derived from the chemical Piperine. It has anti-inflammatory properties which help fight Arthritis, high blood pressure, diabetes, and cardiovascular disease.
